Coffee County has been upgraded to an Enhanced Risk (3 out of 5) for severe storms overnight tonight. The timing has generally remained the same. SEVERE WEATHER SUMMARY --What changed? Mainly an increase in the risk of tornadoes, some of which could be strong, in addition to large hail. --Main hazards: scattered damaging wind gusts 60-70 mph, a few tornadoes (a couple could be strong) and large hail (up to 1” or greater). --Timing: earliest arrival of 3 AM CT, with most likely arrival from 4-7 AM CT. SEVERE WEATHER OVERVIEW: A squall line will race through our region overnight tonight. The squall line itself will have the potential to bring damaging wind gusts and a few isolated brief embedded tornadoes. If any supercells develop in advance of the squall line, then stronger tornadoes and medium-large hail could be expected. As this is an overnight event please make sure you have multiple, reliable ways to receive weather alerts. LATE SEASON FROST/FREEZE SUMMARY --Behind the storms, cold air will revisit us again for a few days. Tuesday morning looks to be windy with wind chills in the 20s, with temperatures right below freezing. Wednesday morning will feature another freeze but light to calm winds will keep the wind chills bearable. Later in the week temperatures rebound with plenty of sunshine.

We are so proud of our Elba FCCLA students and all they accomplished at the Alabama FCCLA State conference in Montgomery this week. Taylor Day wrapped up her year serving as the 2025–2026 Vice President of Membership and she took the stage one last time in her officer role. Her leadership this year has meant so much to our chapter. A huge congratulations to Kayden Moseley, who was officially installed as the 2026–2027 Vice President of Advocacy and Partnership! We are so excited to watch her represent our school and make an impact across the state. Our competitors did an amazing job as well: * Hillary Hudson and Mary Brooklyn O’Neal – 1st Place, Sports Nutrition Level 2, earning a berth to compete at the National FCCLA Conference in Washington, D.C. this summer! * Keelie Moseley – 3rd Place and Gold Medal, Teaching Strategies Level 3 * Skylar Mitchell – Gold Medal and 6th Place, Job Interview Level 3 * Taylor Day, Easton McKelvy, and Matthew McCart – Silver Medal, Sports Nutrition Level 3 We could not be more proud of these students. Their hard work, dedication, and courage to step out and compete truly paid off.

This year Southeast Gas will distribute $140,688 directly to 20 public school systems in 2026 as part of its yearly Give Back to School initiative. This year, Elba City Schools received $2,150. Elba Councilman and Southeast Gas Board member Gappa Wise and Elba City Schools Superintendent Donny Powell collaborated on how to best use the funds for their system. In addition to the Give Back to Schools initiative, Southeast Gas offers a Community Service Scholarship for high school seniors who attend public schools it serves. This year, the scholarship amount increased to $2,000 to lift more of the financial burden from students.

Our hometown is proud to cheer on Cole Shehee as he takes his talent to one of the biggest youth rodeos in the country--the Junior Patriot in Fort Worth, Texas!

Cole will be competing in tie-down roping, and what makes this even more impressive is that he's only been roping for just one year. In that short time, his hard work and determination have already paid off--earning him two qualifications this past fall to compete at this prestigious event.

The Junior Patriot isn't just any rodeo--it draws top youth competitors from across the nation and boasts over $1,00,000 in payouts, making it one of the most competitive and exciting stages in youth rodeo today.

Cole's journey is a true example of grit, dedication, and God-given talent. From long hours in the practice pen to stepping into the arena under pressure, he continues to rise to the challenge and represent our community with pride.

We couldn't be more excited to watch him chase the opportunity. Join us in wishing Cole the very best as he competes in Fort Worth--we know he's going to make our hometown proud!

A wonderful performance by The Elba High School Marching Tiger Band at their spring concert today, our last for Director of Bands Mr. Shaun Hammonds. Through countless rehearsals, performances, competitions, and long days, he has poured his heart into our students and our program. His passion for music and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact-not only on the sound of our band, but on the lives of the young people he has mentored along the way. As he begins a new chapter in his life, we want him to know how much he is appreciated and how deeply he will be missed. The legacy he leaves behind will continue to resonate for years to come. Thank you, Mr. Hammonds, for everything you have done for Elba High School and our students. We wish you the very best in all that lies ahead!
